i'm really looking forward to the opening of "out of the wild", a three-person exhibition that i'm participating in at art star in philadelphia.

here are the deets:

Art Star Gallery and Boutique presents "Out of the Wild," a 3 person exhibition featuring animal imagery in fabric & thread as interpreted by Kate Durkin, Maggy Rozycki Hiltner, & Abby Glassenberg.

We will have free beer, spiked punch & pie at the opening reception on Saturday night, July 24, from 5pm-8 pm.!

Plus Door Prizes: The first 10 guests will receive $10 gift cards & the next 25 guests will receive $5 Gift Cards! Gift Cards will be valid on purchases made during the opening reception ONLY.

HUGE owl and whale

i just did a custom order for a super-sized owl and whale, and i can't help sharing some photos. i'm going to have a hard time saying good-bye to these guys, because they make me chuckle every time i look over at them. lenny and i had a fun photo shoot with them this morning.

daily painting project 4 x 6

i'm so exciting to announce that for the next 30 days i'll be embarking on a daily painting exercise, creating one 4 x 6 stitched painting everyday until february 18.

i've admired many artists who practice daily painting, and thought i would try the discipline myself. for various months in 2010 i'll be creating pieces of the same dimensions everyday. my goal is to do at least 6 of these projects, hopefully more.

i'm documenting the process here, and selling the pieces here. thank you for looking and sharing this experience with me!

the case measures 3.5 x 5.25, and will fit your iphone, ipod touch, blackberry, or mobile device. for now they are available in pale yellow, blue, rust and brown.

haiti earthquake

as the news from haiti gets worse everyday, it's heartening to see so many people pulling together to give what they can to the relief work there. the huffington post has a comprehensive list of organizations to donate to for victims of tuesday's earthquake.

i'm donating 10% of sales in my shop to the relief effort, and many other shops are making similar donations. and to those who have donated already: you rock.

lenny and i just got back from an AWESOME trip to new york. we got there in the middle of a heat wave, but i was happy to return to the east coast to experience summer as i know it (ie: insanely hot). we ate well, drank well, saw the fabulous play "the country girl", went to coney island for part of the siren fesival, went to PS1, swam in the ocean on long island, saw my cousin john's band play, took the staten island ferry, and best of all got to hang out with wonderful friends and family!

i have to say i miss living in new york, and since we are thinking of moving next year, it's looking like the big apple is high on the list. i would love to move back to sunnyside / woodside in queens, where molly and i lived for two years. new york is just one of those cities that feels like home every time i go...

on another note, tonight is the opening of a fantabulous show that i have a few pieces in at secession art + design. 6:30 - 9:30 at 3361 mission st (across from the safeway near 30th). come check it out!

i don't know if you have been following the eurocup, but it's been an action-packed group of games so far. (my team) italy beat france 2-0 and holland beat romania 2-0, which means italy advances to the quarterfinals! which means there will be a lot more soccer watching in the pub (and subsequent guinness drinking) in my near future...

it was a scorcher here in sf today, lucky for us it was a monday, the day lenny and i almost always take off. after watching italy get destroyed in their first game of the euro championship vs. the netherlands (3-0, yikes), we enjoyed some sunshine in dolores park. now to make some yummy homemade pizza and watch the x-files (i'm totally hooked, never watched it when it aired).

let's hope that the azzuri can beat france and romania and push ahead to the next round, cause let's face it, it'd be a shame if they didn't.

been doing some sewing today and updated the shop with a bunch of new bags and things.

my sister molly found a wicker basket on the street the other day that is a perfect bed for our cat pinky. he is a little on the large size, but squeezes just fine into the basket with his blanket. i caught him snoozing today in this pose - what a cutie.

redux

i just finished a marathon of art-making for my show at redux in portland, which opens next friday. here are a few tid-bits that will be up there. "the gloaming" is a radiohead song, and also means twilight. i've also started thinking about giraffes. will be updating my website soon with all of the next work.

tonight i'm watching juno for the second time. the story is pretty cheesy, but the dialogue is hilarious. i think the dad and step-mom are the best characters in the movie. i'm very much enjoying just watching a movie without sewing at the same time.

i'm feeling extremely lazy on this cloudy memorial day. after a coffee and the crossword, i did manage to put this penny-farthing bag in my shop. i'll be updating over the next week with things left over from capsule. thanks to everyone for stopping by my table yesterday, after a rough start (i was 2 hours late because i couldn't get a cab out of the mission due to carnival) it was a lovely and successful day! i thought it was going to rain, so i didn't bring any sunscreen and have the red nose to prove it. just call me rudolph.
